2021 COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

  • collecting food for our troops

SMRWF’s Community Service Committee annually sends Christmas cards to deployed troops. Since 1st VP Giovanna Feuerman's son, 1st Lieutenant Jake Feuerman, was recently deployed to northeastern Syria, Comanche Red 1 Platoon, SMRWF decided we would send cards to her son's troop of about 40 men. In addition to the Christmas cards, many graciously asked if there was anything else that they could send. Giovanna suggested collecting "protein" rich foods since Jake had told her that they weren't getting enough protein during the day. Members brought all sorts of protein packed treats to the meeting and some even gave money to buy the things they needed. Giovanna sent the packages along with Christmas decorations so that they could decorate their tents to remind them of home. This is a picture that her son sent of some of his soldiers enjoying the goodies we sent! They were all so thankful. Jake said the platoon really appreciated the care packages. Now every time he gets one they ask, "sir, another one for us?!" Thank you again to all who contributed!

  • DECEMBER SOCK HOP DRIVE A BIG SUCCESS

As part of our annual Holiday Party, SMRWF collected pairs of sock, wrapped as gifts to give to organizations serving the needy this Holiday Season.  We collected over 80 packages of wrapped socks.  The red tub was overflowing with love and generosity.  The socks for men were delivered to the VA for distribution through their Thrift Store which serves men living in tents on their grounds.  The children’s socks were delivered to Baby2Baby in Culver City, a non-profit serving children living in poverty ages 0-12.  The socks for women were delivered to Sojourn Service for Battered Women in Santa Monica.  Thank you to Arlene Vaillancourt, David Partie and Jean Worland for making these important deliveries.
